Six-run victory for Frickley side
FRICKLEY Colliery maintained top spot in Division 1 of the Yorkshire Council Pontefract League after a six-run home victory over Sprotbrough, but there was no joy for Colliery in Division 2 where they went down by eight wickets at Darton.
A second-wicket partnership of 60 by Stephen Secker (43) and Inderjit Hayre (18) provided a foundation for Frickley against Sprotbrough, with Greg Johnson (19), Keith Whitehouse (21) and Andrew Wathey (19), keeping the scoreboard moving to see them to 171-9.
Michael Threapleton captured 5-75 from 14 overs and Gordon Laidlaw 2-36 from 12.
The visitors lost their first four wickets for 21 runs as Shane Payne, who finished with 5-28 from 14 overs, and Richard Hepworth, whose 12 overs reaped 2-55, got to work, but a fifth-wicket stand of 41 from Stuart Laidlaw (19) and Gordon Laidlaw (36) stopped the slide, while Richard Laidlaw (47) and Michael Threapleton (36) figured in a seventh-wicket stand of 60 to narrow the gap, only for a run-out to see them close on 165 in the penultimate over.
Mark Proudley took 2-3 from two overs.
2XI lose again
Opener Ashley Vickers (43) underpinned the Frickley knock at Darton, Callum Williamson (18no) being the only other in double figures as they were dismissed for 100.
Causing problems was P Jenson 4-29, J Whittlestone 2-2 and S Park 2-46.
P Hanson (31) and R Greatorex (29) led the Darton response of 101-2.
Taking the wickets were James Blacker 1-14 and Ashley Vickers 1-30.
